direct to your inboxPolice have warned motorists to take extra care this morning after parts of Greater Manchester woke up to snow.A band of wintery showers is moving slowly south bringing snow on higher ground and sleet and rain in other areas.Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside and Glossop were among the areas to get a covering of snow overnight as temperatures plunged below freezing.A Met Office weather warning remains in place for the region.The yellow warning for snow and ice was issued at 5pm yesterday (Thursday) and remains in force until midnight tonight (Friday).It says: "Patchy rain, sleet and snow is expected to fall onto frozen surfaces leading to icy stretches forming."In addition, a more persistent spell of rain and hill snow is likely.
