The drama unfolded on Green End Lane in Burnage shortly after midday today (Thursday). Three fire engines attended the scene, at the row of shops opposite the Aldi store.
A fire had started in a flat on the stretch Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said. "The incident involved a faulty flue of a wood burning stove which was discharging smoke into the roof space of the building" they said in a statement. "Firefighters extinguished the fire and cleared smoke from the property." There were no reports of anyone being injured.Crews were on the scene for around an hour and a half. Get breaking news first.
