Police have been spotted outside a block of flats in Edinburgh hours after the street was 'locked down by armed officers'. A police van and an unmarked car were pictured outside the property on Matthew Street in Greendykes at around 8pm on Thursday.
A worried resident told Edinburgh Live that armed officers had previously been at the scene. It's understood armed officers descended on the street around 10am before entering the block of flats with 'shields'.The reason for the heavy police presence is currently unknown.
Residents were told to stay inside in the morning before officers left with "full evidence bags."The witness said: "Five or six jeeps and one van came flying up the street around 10am this morning.
They closed the road off and armed officers went in to a stair with shields and guns. Around 10 CID came once the firearm officers left and now they’ve got two vans sitting outside the stair and two undercover cars."There was a huge presence and a lot of armed officers.
