Piers Morgan claimed Emily Maitlis has been "thrown to the wolves" by the BBC after the backlash from Tuesday evening's Newsnight.
The 49-year-old presenter stated that Dominic Cummings had broken the lockdown rules in the opening scenes of the programme, having driven between London and Durham during the lockdown.
Katie Razzall replaced her on the Wednesday evening instalment of Newsnight, with the BBC claiming Maitlis' comments "did not meet" its standards of impartiality.
Claiming their editorial guidelines do not permit newsreaders to "express opinion," the BBC suggested a mark had been "overstepped".
