Petr Cech had reportedly been placed in the awkward role of a go-between in the final weeks of Frank Lampard's Chelsea reign.
As the walls were closing in on the former Blues midfielder amid poor results and mounting distrust from the club's board, Chelsea technical director Cech - who has also been registered as a player this season to help the under-23 setup - was seemingly turned to to canvass the players for their opinions.
The Athletic report that Cech - who played alongside Lampard for 10 years at Chelsea, winning three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League together - was then required to report back to director Marina Granovskaia with his findings.
