DIY-mad mum recreates luxury doors for £10 – and she saved over £1,000 doing it
DIY tips after revamping her doors for just £10. Lorraine Kafanke, 37, from Cumbria, found out the beautiful crittal doors she wanted would cost her £1,200.Not wanting to spend a fortune, the mum-of-two decided to make it herself for a fraction of the price.By using paint and tape to create a dupe of the doors, the whole project ended up costing her less than a tenner. She came up with the idea after she saw the doors of her dreams but couldn't afford them. Now she's thrilled by how they look and says anyone can easily copy her design.Speaking to LatestDeals.co.uk, Lorraine said: "I thought 'why not try and create the look myself on a much cheaper scale?' "I just used electrical tape, which cost 79p, and measured out four equal sections to create a glass panel look."I wasn't sure the tape would work but it's easily removed if the look didn't suit."It was a little tricky getting the tape straight but a few attempts and I was happy."She added: "I used Johnstones matt black gloss paint for the wood at £8.99 a tin doing two thin coats."The process took about three days because of the drying time between coats."I also masked up the glass to get a nice neat finish with the paint and gave the glass a good clean before applying the black tape."Lorraine says she is "so pleased" with how they turned out and says she's happy to have completed the look on a budget. And the beauty of it all is that she saved £1,000 on doing everything herself.
