Teddy Sheringham opens up on his best manager - with Sir Alex Ferguson ranked second
Sir Alex Ferguson coming a close second.Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, after Tottenham's emphatic 5-0 victory over Everton, the ex-England striker, 55, was asked by host David Jones to reflect on who he regarded as the most influential manager in his career."I was very lucky to play under some fantastic managers but top of the pile has to be Terry Venables," replied Sheringham. "I was playing under him at the peak of my career during my time at Spurs and for England, and obviously playing for Sir Alex at Manchester United, he was unbelievable." Earning his first England cap towards the latter stages of his career, Sheringham was picked by Venables as the preferred strike-partner to Alan Shearer.Shining at Euro '96, the then-Tottenham forward scored a brace against the Netherlands in the group stage whilst also netting in the penalty shoot-out loss to Germany in the semi-finals.And Sheringham was full of praise for his former boss when reflecting on how Venables almost ended England's 30-year trophy hoodoo."He had a wonderful way about telling us about what he wanted without confusing issues," added the 55-year-old.HAVE YOUR SAY! Sir Alex Ferguson once begged one of worst Premier League keepers to stay at Man Utd
Manchester United, but he also had a few flops during his time.Although Ferguson had some of the greats in goal over his spell at United, for some reason every goalkeeper was prone to an iconic howler at Old Trafford, with Roy Carroll, Fabien Barthez and David De Gea amongst some of the shot-stoppers to embarrass themselves. One of the most famous incidents of all though, was when Massimo Taibi allowed Matt Le Tissier's shot to squeeze through his legs while his face planted into the ground, but by the time he picked himself up, the ball was in the net.Despite flopping at United, the goalkeeper who has just turned 52, claimed that it was his decision to leave United, and that Ferguson begged him to stay.Taibi joined United in 1999 for £4.5million after Peter Schmeichel left Old Trafford, but the Italian soon returned to his homeland the following year after making just four appearances for the first team. The goalkeeper revealed that it was a family issue causing him major issues, and that he had to return to Italy, but admitted that Ferguson was desperate to see him stay at the club. Unfortunately for Talibi, one of those four games included the howler against Southampton, but the Italian opened up about his time at United."Of course, it was 100% my decision to leave Manchester United.

Teddy Sheringham slams Man Utd for making "absurd" Ralf Rangnick decision
Manchester United for making what he has called an "absurd" decision relating to Ralf Rangnick's appointment.Rangnick arrived at Old Trafford in December after being announced as the club's interim manager for the remainder of the season following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The search for a new permanent boss has been delayed until the end of the current campaign, at which point Rangnick will assist as part of his new role as a club advisor. However, the decision to bring in an interim manager on a temporary basis in the first place has left Sheringham confused.Speaking to Genting Casino, Sheringham explains: “In the main, when we're talking about Man United, I think the real problem goes back to Rangnick coming in, another interim manager, it's just absurd for me.“United had an interim manager in Michael Carrick, they let him go and appointed another, it just brings uncertainty to a group of footballers that should be playing at their highest level.“Rangnick is obviously going to chop and change with who he likes and who he doesn't like.“A footballer's mentality, if you are left out for three or four games is, ‘I really want to get back in the team'.Do you agree with Teddy Sheringham's comments? Let us know in the comments section below."But when it's an interim manager you can wait till the end of the season and say, ‘Do you know what? He'll be gone before I go, so I'll wait till the next manager comes in.’“It's another season lost when you have that sort of vibe, you only need to chop and change and rotate the team a few times and you've got a lot of unhappy players.“I think the actual problem is coming from the top.
