Joy Division‘s ‘Unknown Pleasures’ has been turned into a climate mural to raise funds for Music Declares Emergency’s No Music On A Dead Planet.The sleeve was originally based on an image of radio waves from pulsar CP 1919, but it now shows the waves as flat and lifeless to “symbolise the eternal silence of a dead planet”.The work in Withington, in Manchester is part of a wider campaign calling for “urgent action on climate” ahead of the COP26 UN Climate Conference in Glasgow.It is close to a mural of Saville himself and footballer Marcus Rashford.It comes after MDE launched a t-shirt campaign earlier this year with the logo.

Joy Division bandmate Peter Hook.The artwork was revealed today (October 9) to mark World Mental Health Day and the start of this weekend’s Headstock Weekender festival (10-11).Hook attended the unveiling of the mural, which was created by street artist Aske and was commissioned by Headstock. Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis in the band’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart‘ music video is going on auction.Curtis’ pentagonal-shaped Vox Phantom VI Special Guitar is expected to fetch between £60,000 and £80,000 at Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia Sale on October 13.The guitar was given to Curtis’ daughter, Natalie, by Joy Division guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner (now in New Order) when she came of age.
