Iggy Pop has joined forces with Trevor Horn to share a gritty cover of ‘Personal Jesus’ – check it out below.Shared by Depeche Mode back in 1990, the track has since gone on to be a fan favourite for the band and has been covered by an extensive list of other famous faces, including Johnny Cash.Now, Iggy Pop has become the latest to cover the iconic track and joined forces with Trevor Horn to create a more gritty, rustic version of the original.Surprisingly, the cover alongside the renowned record producer and musician marks the first time that the former frontman of The Stooges has put his name to the track – and the finished product sees him put a noticeably more rockabilly spin on the original.Check it out below.Shared as part of Horn’s forthcoming covers album, ‘Echoes – Ancient & Modern’, the cover with Iggy Pop stemmed from the singer wanting to try recording various approaches to his performance and stitch them all together to create a more rustic final result.“[Iggy] said: ‘I’ve heard the track, I’m going to do three takes where I gradually get crazier and crazier and then a fourth take where I speak it and that will be it. Duff McKagan has shared his hopes for there being a guitar band one day that has the same impact as Guns N’Roses.In a new interview with Classic Rock, the bassist addresses the subject of rock’n’roll’s future and he reveals his view of things remains optimistic.“Man, I hope so,” he said. “I see these young people coming out to Guns show, and I’m, like, ‘Man, it’s cool you’re coming to see us, but there should be a band that’s 21 or 22 that you’re fucking losing your shit to.’ I don’t know if it’ll be the same, but I fucking hope so.”Elsewhere in the same interview, he goes into detail about his longstanding musical relationship with Iggy Pop. Pat Saperstein Deputy Editor Lovers of ’80s music in the synth-pop and post-punk genres rejoiced Saturday as a stuffed roster including Iggy Pop, Gang of Four, Love and Rockets, Echo and the Bunnymen and the Human League performed at the Cruel World festival in Pasadena. The festival had an unexpected second evening of performances on Sunday after lightning cut short Saturday night’s show before Siouxsie was able to play. It’s not an easy job to give the faithful fans what they want while avoiding sounding like a Totally ’80s greatest hits sampler. Most of the attendees had four decades of hearing these bands under their studded belts, recognizing many of the songs from the very first jangly chord. Though many of the acts have released new music in the ensuing 40 or so years, the audience wasn’t really there to make new discoveries, and the bands obliged with tight sets heavy on MTV staples.

Iggy Pop put his own spin on Lou Reed‘s 1972 hit ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ at a show in Los Angeles – check it out below.The punk legend played the song as the opener of the encore and was accompanied by his all-star band the Losers, made up of Andrew Watt and Jamie Hince (the latter of The Kills fame), Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Beninese artist and songwriter Angélique Kidjo, Estonian composer Arvo Pärt and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell have been announced as the recipients of this year’s Polar Music Prize.They will be presented with their prizes and 600,000 Swedish Kroner at a ceremony in Stockholm on 23 May, which will be livestreamed on YouTube if you fancy watching it.Bigging up this year’s winners, the prize’s MD Marie Ledin says: “Angélique Kidjo is an inspirational artist, she constantly explores and challenges and is one of the greatest singer-songwriters in international music.
