Pearls are no longer a prim-and-proper Sloane staple: they're one of the most versatile gems in your jewellery box Pearls have come full circle, and the results are not circular at all.
From lumpy, bumpy baroque pearls, to tiny misshapen seed pearls and iridescent pearls in dark shades from black to green and purple, jewellery designers are no longer restricting themselves to perfect orbs or symmetrical, uniform, single strands.
Instead, they’re using pearls as freely as any other material – slicing them open a la Melanie Georgacopoulos, turning them into vast ear cuffs at Tasaki, or threading them with gold wire and twisting them into long, swirling earrings like Poppy Finch.
