A social media user has caused a stir by claiming parents are 'lying to children' by telling them they can be whatever they want when they grow up.
Hull Live reports that the unnamed user is claiming that parentsare filling up kid's brains with a "cotton candy" view of the world. The outspoken poster took to a popular parenting forum to share their controversial views on being realistic over what young people can achieve.
Posting on Mumsnet, the person says mums and dads need to stop with 'false promises' to their children. They said: "Stop telling your children "you can be or do anything you want to".
This is completely untrue and a flat out lie. "I prefer the term "you can do anything you are capable of. A lot of parents today I've noticed fill their young minds with a cotton candy view of the world and then wonder why their kids feel unaccomplished or sad when they start reaching adulthood."I'm not saying that we should destroy the dreams of our kids but I'm absolutely in favour of not over-inflating a child's hopes to the point where they can't cope with anything future failure.
