Parents across Greater Manchester and Cheshire are being told secondary school children must wear masks again

For the latest Tameside news sign up to the MyTameside newsletter here Thousands of parents are receiving emails from secondary schools across Greater Manchester and Cheshire stating that children must start wearing masks again.

Tomorrow will see the return of most children after the May half term break. Nationally, advice on mask-wearing was relaxed from May 17 to state that staff and pupils no longer needed to wear face coverings in any school setting in England.

But the MEN has learned that a number of local public health authorities in the north west have issued recommendations to secondary schools about the use of masks again due to "rising Covid-19 transmission rates across the community due largely to the Delta variant of concern".
