Coronavirus cases rise by nearly 8,000 across the UK in biggest Saturday increase since February

Today (June 12), a further 7,738 positive tests were recorded in the UK, the largest total on a Saturday since February 20. Over the past week, 47,868 fresh infections were reported, marking a weekly increase of 52.5 per cent.

Twelve more people lost their lives to Covid-19 today, one fewer than this time a week ago. The increase comes as the highly infectious Delta variant continues to spread across the UK, with the number of coronavirus cases in the UK having surged in recent weeks.
