non-league footballer Thomas Rankin who has unexpectedly passed away in his mid-20s. Rankin played for Redditch United of the Southern League Premier Division Central.
The club announced the sad loss of the player, who had been with the side for three seasons, on social media on Sunday. In a statement the club said: "Redditch United are devastated to hear of passing of midfielder Thomas Rankin.
Tom has been with the Reds for the past three seasons. His loss will be felt by all at the club. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
RIP Tom." In a Facebook post, Rankin's parents Wendy and Bob posted an emotional tribute to their late son. His mum said: "Tom you are the best son, you have always made us so proud, you are our world.
