William Earl The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on Friday that journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov have been awarded the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.In a statement posted to their official site, the committee praised the duo “for their courageous fight for freedom of expression in the Philippines and Russia.

At the same time, they are representatives of all journalists who stand up for this ideal in a world in which democracy and freedom of the press face increasingly adverse conditions.”Ressa co-founded Rappler, an investigative journalism company based in the Philippines, in 2012.
