NHS England is planning to "ramp up" testing facilities so that 10,000 coronavirus tests can be performed each day. As of 9am on March 10, a total of 26,261 people have been tested by public health officials in England, with 373 positive for the virus.
However it's hoped that within weeks, 10,000 swabs will be taken and assessed each day thanks to a highly sensitive test developed by Public Health England (PHE).
It is being rapidly implemented in laboratories across the country, with local hospital labs joining specialist services to be able to accurately detect the presence of the new virus.
