Newhaven 'explosion' sparks huge blaze as plumes of smoke seen for miles

A huge fire has broken out in East Sussex with massive thick clouds of smoke seen for miles. Fire and rescue crews were called at around 9.30am today to reports of a huge blaze in Newhaven which can be seen as far as Brighton.

Officials say an industrial building was found alight and has since been evacuated. Dramatic video footage and images from the scene show plumes of dark grey smoke billowing from the building.

People in the area are being warned to keep their windows and doors shut as fire crews deal with the serious fire. A witness who shared footage from the scene tweeted: "There was a big explosion near the Port in Newhaven 10 minutes ago." Another said: "Warehouse fire in Newhaven harbour.
