Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

New Universal Credit payment rates ahead of DWP ending £20 uplift this week

Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has contacted nearly six million benefit claimants across the UK confirming their Universal Credit payment will be cut by £20-a-week from October 6, 2021.

Despite many vocal objections to the ending of the uplift, including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who has joined with the First Minister of Wales and the First Minister and deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland to demand Prime Minister Boris Johnson “do the right thing” by reversing the decision to withdraw the £20-a-week uplift to Universal Credit, the DWP plans to go ahead with the monthly reduction.
