More than 20,000 children across Scotland will be plunged into poverty because of the UK Government's "shameful" decision to cut Universal Credit, campaigners have warned.
The benefit - which is claimed by many families already in full-time employment - will be worth £20 less each week from today.
Boris Johnson has refused to listen to pleas from charities, anti-poverty campaigners, opposition parties and even his fellow Tory MPs to reverse the cut at a time of rising household costs.
And Tory chancellor Rishi Sunak used a speech this week to claim it would be "immoral" to borrow more public money despite dire warnings of the financial hardship the least well-off families now face.
