New 'danger to life' phone alert broadcasts to launch in UK with loud siren noises

Brits' phones if their life is in danger.Following a trial last summer, the UK Government is set to launch a nationwide service which will notify people based on location if they are at risk due to a nearby incident.

In an emergency, every phone and tablet in the affected area will receive an alert with advice about how to avoid the danger and stay safe, WalesOnline reports.Testing in 2021 proved successful in pinging out notifications without even having people's phone numbers and the plan is expected to roll out across the country in a matter of months.In an emergency, mobile phone masts in the surrounding area will broadcast an alert.

Every compatible mobile phone or tablet in range of a mast will receive the alert.The emergency services and the UK government do not need your phone number to send you an alert, you will get alerts based on your current location – not where you live or work, no-one will collect or share data about you, your device or your location when you receive an alert, according to the Government.You will not get alerts if your device is turned off or in aeroplane mode, and the emergency alerts are free.
