The faster-spreading new variant of coronavirus is "almost certainly" in most European countries already, a top UK expert has said.
Prof Neil Ferguson, a member of government advisors SAGE, said his view was the mutant strain had already escaped UK borders to several places.
He said the extent of knowledge about new variants was held back because not all countries are able to analyse its genetics in the same way as the UK.
But he told MPs: "The fact they have picked up 10 cases with sequencing of this new variant in a country as small as Denmark with a relatively low infection rate, would suggest almost certainly - my view - that this virus has been introduced to the great majority if not all European countries at the current time.” Speakin
