Neon has acquired the U.S. rights toPhilippe Lacôte’ssecond feature,Night of the Kings, after his Cannes-selected Run. The film world premiered at Venice ahead of playing attheToronto and New York film festivals.
Night of the Kings — chosen as the Ivory Coast submission for this year’s Academy Awards best international film competition — centers on a young man thrown into the infamous La Maca prison and forced to invent a story to entertain his audience until sunrise, or face death if he fails.
Under moonlight, he craftsa tale weaving together the country's mythological past and recent history, while around him, prison politics threaten to boil over.
