hurling what is thought to have been petrol through a window.The attacker struck 48 hours after a man died while trying to set a fire at a house a mile away.Police are investigating whether the two incidents in Greenock are linked.The latest fire started at about 11pm on Wednesday.Emergency services rescued a 40-year-old woman from the flat and took her to hospital with serious injuries.She was described as “stable”.
Her daughter escaped unhurt.Neighbours in the block were evacuated and spent several hours out of their homes.Police said substantial damage was caused to the property.
