An ex-Marine bar owner took his own life just hours before he was due to turn himself in on charges of shooting dead a Black Lives Matter protester.
Jake Gardner was accused of committing manslaughter in relation to the death of James Scurlock, 22, outside his bar in Omaha, Nebraska, during demonstrations and unrest on May 30.
An arrest warrant was issued for the 38-year-old on Friday before he was found dead on Sunday in Portland, Oregon, when he was due to hand himself, reports Omaha World-Herald.
Gardner's lawyer Stu Dornan confirmed his client's suicide, and said he had suffered a traumatic brain injury and PTSD from his days serving in the military.
