Government has so far failed to pay to accommodate the growing numbers of people who are becoming homeless during the Covid-19 outbreak, the mayor has warned - while slashing the amount of funding to Greater Manchester’s councils in their latest Covid bailout by £12m.
Andy Burnham said the picture for town halls was ‘very worrying’, as ministers appeared to have stopped taking deprivation into account when handing out cash.
That bailout would partly go towards the cost of putting up homeless people in hotels during the crisis, who already number more than 1,300 in Greater Manchester.
