Manchester United have been told highly-rated Ajax coach Erik ten Hag would be more suited to the hot seat at one of their Premier League rivals.
Having come under mounting pressure, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked from his position at Old Trafford midway through last month and replaced by Ralf Rangnick until the end of this season.
That came after United signalled reciprocated interest in Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino. The big-spending French side even knocked back one approach from the Premier League giants.
Key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom ultimately went down the interim route, though, as Ten Hag and former Tottenham coach Pochettino continue to be linked with a summer permanent role.
