Manchester United in the wake of Ralf Rangnick's appointment as manager left staff 'gutted', according to reports. Carrick, 40, called time on his 16-year association with the club at the start of the month, directly after beating Arsenal 3-2 in the final game of his spell as caretaker boss.
It was expected that Carrick, who first joined United's coaching staff during Jose Mourinho's ill-fatted stint in charge at Old Trafford, would remain with the club following Rangnick's appointment.
But after leading the Red Devils to two wins a draw in his trio of matches in the dugout, the former England midfielder confirmed he would be departing with immediate effect."My time at this great club will always rank as the best years of my career," he.
