Fans of wine and intimate spaces should be heading to Pollard Yard in New Islington this weekend to check out the smallest wine bar in the city.
Le Social, run by French sommelier Jérôme Boullier, will fling open the doors of its tiny shipping container on Saturday. It boasts just three tables, which can be booked for two-hour slots between 2pm and 10pm every Saturday. “With Le Social I want to create an alternative wine-led space which is centred on experience and inclusivity,” Bouillier said. “The intimate nature of the bar means customers will gain knowledge as well as try out something new and exciting and meet new people in doing so!” Wines can be plucked off the shelves and bought at their retail price, plus a £5 corkage, and drunk in the bar, or bought and taken home.
Boullier will also be on hand to talk his customers through each wine, with his stock set to change throughout the year. He’s also planning on hosting special tastings and workshops, as well as offering his private ‘tasting room’ to hire for birthday parties and private events.
To soak things up, there is a deli-style menu, featuring French, Italian and Spanish fare, like Catalan sardines, marinated artichokes and duck rillettes.
