Manchester's giant 2.3-tonne Santa is making its return to the city centre today

The city centre is getting ready to welcome back the famous light-up Santa statue for another year of festive cheer. The Father Christmas figure, which weighs 2.3 tonnes and is more than 12 metres high, will be constructed from today, November 15.

There will be no big Christmas lights switch-on event again this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Speculation first started mounting last week (November 12), when the MCR Santa Twitter account tweeted about its return. "I'm Defrosting" it posted,
