David Mottram, 47, was found guilty of murder following an eight day trial at Chester Crown Court. Cheshire Police said Mottram rang a crisis helpline on March 2 and told the person on the other end of the line that he had killed his neighbour, 45-year-old Samantha Heap.

Mottram subjected Ms Heap to a 'sustained and brutal assault' after telling her he had been locked out of his flat and needed to contact a family member to get a spare, police said.
