Manchester United hero Jaap Stam has revealed one of the lowest moments of his career and the game he is remembered for most - that 2005 Champions League defeat to Liverpool with AC Milan.
Stam won a number of trophies in his career with some of the world’s best clubs. The former defender won the Eredivisie with PSV as a youngster, before joining United where he was part of the infamous treble winning team from the 1998/99 season in his first year at Old Trafford.
However, Stam says winning the Champions League isn’t the famous European memory that comes to most fans’ mind when it comes to him.
Instead, the Dutchman admits that the penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool after leading 3-0 at half-time still haunts him. “That was a nightmare.
