Inverclyde town at lunchtime on Wednesday.Ambulance crews were called to the scene and he was rushed to the town's Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH).
Police confirmed that the man later died in hospital.The cause of death is yet to be confirmed. Police Scotland revealed on Thursday that a report on the incident was submitted to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC).
The PIRC is a branch of the Scottish Government that investigates complaints made by members of the public against Police Scotland.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the 'full circumstances' surrounding the death. A spokeswoman from Police Scotland told the Record: "At around 12.10 pm on Wednesday, February, 10 a man took unwell whilst engaged with officers on.
