Major supermarkets have recalled Primula cheese as it may contain bacteria that could cause paralysis. The cheese, sold in squeezy tubes, may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.

If ingested, the bacteria can cause a serious form of food poisoning called Botulism. While rare - the illness can be life threatening - with the NHS saying toxins from the bacteria are some of the most powerful known to science.

They attack the nervous system and can lead to paralysis. Early signs of the poisoning include vomiting, diarrhoea and cramps and severe nausea.

Other symptoms include drooping eyelids, difficulty swallowing and slurred speech. The recall comes after one of Primula's products were found to contain a source of Clostridium botulinum
