Major search operation for missing Boeing 737 with 62 passengers on board

direct to your inboxA Boeing 737 passenger plane lost contact and disappeared shortly after take off.Indonesian officials say the Sriwijaya Air jet lost contact with air traffic controllers after taking off from Jakarta for Pontianak in West Kalimantan province this morning.A search and rescue operation is now under way.There were 62 people on board - including 56 passengers and six crew.The Sriwijaya Air took off from Jakarta at about 1.56pm and lost contact with the control tower at 2.40pm.

The Indonesian Transport Ministry spokesperson, Adita Irawati, confirmed that there had been a loss of contact with the Sriwijaya Air aircraft.
