A shark hunt has been launched and beaches have been closed after a mum was killed by a great white while out swimming with her daughter.
Julie Dimperio Holowach, 63, quickly succumbed to her injuries despite being hauled back to the shore by kayakers following the attack in Maine on Monday.
While two further shark sightings in Nassau County on New York's Long Island - also along America's east coast - have seen officials deploy boats and helicopters to scour the surrounding waters.
Nickerson Beach, Long Beach, and Jones Beach State Park have all been closed this week, with one sighting believed to be a bull shark up to 10 feet long - the biggest spotted in the area for years, reports WNBC-TV.
