Louis van Gaal and Liverpool chiefs once held talks over a possible move to Anfield, the Dutchman has revealed. Throughout his managerial career the 69-year-old was thought of as one of Europe's finest coaches and took charge of some elite clubs.
He eventually made his way to the Premier League when he took charge at Manchester United in 2014. But he could've held the reigns at their arch rivals after holding talks in Portugal before the trail went cold.
He told FourFourTwo : "Yes, their managing director [Ian Ayre] came over to Portugal where I have a house, and we held lengthy talks – he even stayed on to have dinner. "After he left, though, I never actually heard anything again.
