NFL player Louis NIX III has unfortunately passed away. The star athlete, who played football professionally for teams including the University of Notre Dame and the New York Giants, was found dead on February 28 after going missing at the age of 29, People magazine recently reported.

Police shared that they had “located” the former defensive end, but did not share any additional information at the time, including the cause of death.

The announcement came after police were seen removing a vehicle, which matched a description from a missing person poster as the car he was last seen driving, from a Florida pond, according to CBS Sports. “We are saddened by the loss of one of our own, Louis Nix III.
