Max Parker, who is best known for playing Luke Posner in Emmerdale, is set to swap the rolling Yorkshire hills for the Marine Corps after landing a role in a new Netflix series.The actor, who met his fiancé while on the ITV soap, will be starring alongside 13 Reasons Why star Miles Heizer and Bates Motel's Vera Farmiga in comedy-drama The Corps, which is set back in 1990. He previously portrayed the role of Emmerdale's Luke between August 2019 and June 2021, with his character battling romance and family woes in a range of hard-hitting storylines. Leading the cast of The Corps will be Miles, who portrays 'underdog character' Cameron, a a gay, bullied teenager.The series will follow him as he decides to join the Marine Corps with his straight best friend, Ray — a dangerous move when being gay in the military meant jail time or worse - and join a platoon of young men on a harrowing journey of transformation.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Weigel Broadcasting Co. is flipping its digital broadcast network Decades into the sitcom-centric Catchy Comedy on March 27, Variety has learned exclusively. The over-the-air network will focus on a library of classic comedies, with an emphasis on key female stars including the signature shows from Lucille Ball, Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett. But also central to the Catchy Comedy lineup are key series from Norman Lear, as well as some of the most lauded sitcoms of all time – including the original “Night Court,” which is back in the spotlight thanks to the success of the revival series on NBC. Unlike Decades, which wasn’t measured by ratings, Catchy Comedy will be Nielsen-rated. “That takes it into a different sphere, in terms of advertiser availability and access,” said Neal Sabin, vice-chairman of Weigel Broadcasting Co. “There are many advertisers that won’t look at these networks unless they’re rated and we’re pretty confident that we have something here that will rate well.”

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Amazon Freevee has given the greenlight to “Clean Slate,” a new comedy from Norman Lear’s Act III Productions, starring Laverne Cox and comedian George Wallace. The original comedy has been in development at Freevee since February 2021, back when the ad-supported streamer was known as IMDb TV. “Clean Slate,” which comes from Cox, Wallace and Dan Ewen, centers on car wash owner Henry (Wallace), whose estranged child comes home to Alabama after 17 years. But he must do some soul searching as he comes to terms with the fact that his adult child is a trans woman, Desiree (Cox). There’s no word yet on an episodic order, when the series might shoot or an estimated premiere date.
