Thug caged after carrying out sex attack on Scots woman at gunpoint
jailed for three years and four months.William Trainor, 29, burst into his victim’s home in Gretna in the early hours of March 15, 2019.Trainor, also of Gretna, was convicted of assaulting the woman with intent to rape her in January 2020.He was also convicted of possessing a handgun and sentence had been deferred to the High Court in Edinburgh for the court to obtain reports about his character.On Wednesday, judge Alison Stirling told Trainor that the offence was so serious there was no alternative to a “period of imprisonment”.In proceedings earlier this year, the court heard how the woman had been woken by her dog barking and discovered the intruder rifling through a cupboard.Trainor then pointed the gun at his victim, who backed off
