Striker Olly McDonald reckons he has proved the doubters wrong after bagging his first senior goal on his first start for Clyde. The 22-year-old gave Championship side Morton a torrid time as his 37th minute strike and a late Ross Cunningham penalty earned a deserved 2-0 win in Group D to get them up and running in the Premier Sports Cup.The former Kilmarnock kid joined from Lowland League Gretna at the start of the month and arrived after spells in the lower echelons of the pyramid with East Stirlingshire and East Kilbride following his release from Rugby Park in July 2020.But his displays in a short stint at Gretna impressed Bully Wee boss Danny Lennon enough to take a chance on him.McDonald repaid that faith with a fine opener against Ton, lashing home a low 20-yard strike to beat keeper Brian Schwake at his near post, and believes he is showing he's got what it takes to play at senior level. He said: "I just want to thank the gaffer for giving me the opportunity because it's been a few years since I came out of Kilmarnock."I've not played a lot of first team football and people have thrown at me 'oh, you've not played men's football yet' - so I think this has proved a lot of people wrong."I was at Gretna last year.

I went in after Christmas and we did struggle in the league, but I enjoyed every bit of it."I scored six goals in eight starts in the league and I thought I did myself justice to get a move, whether it was League Two or League One."It was a good learning curve for me and I'm just thankful that I've been given the opportunity at Clyde."McDonald made his debut when he climbed off the bench in last week's 5-0 humbling by Hibs and also made a substitute appearance in the midweek defeat to League Two Bonnyrigg
