There is finally reason for a sense of renewed optimism at Liverpool after the 4-2 victory over Manchester United on Thursday evening.
Jurgen Klopp's side have put themselves in a promising position for Champions League qualification after a disastrous defence of their Premier League title where they looked in danger of missing out on European competition entirely.
But the win over United means the Anfield club will almost certainly finish in the top four if they secure victories in their last three games against West Brom, Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Champions League football would give Klopp a platform to improve his squad in the hope that this season can simply be dismissed as an aberration.
