Liverpool missed a trick by not signing Nicolas Anelka on a permanent deal in 2002, according to his former Reds strike partner Emile Heskey.
Anelka joined the Merseyside outfit on loan from Paris St-Germain in the second half of the 2001/02 season, helping them achieve a second-place finish in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, the forward failed to convince Gerard Houlier to sign him on a full-time basis, meaning he instead completed a move to Manchester City the following summer.
