Liverpool were naive in their failure to sign a new central defender during the summer window. That is the view of former England defender Wes Brown, who won five Premier League titles during his time with Manchester United - lifting the Champions League twice.
Brown believes that Jurgen Klopp and his transfer team should have brought in an experienced back-up for Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez before they were ruled out with long-term injuries.
Klopp has been forced to hand appearances to youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips in recent weeks, as well as trying to create a partnership between Joel Matip and Fabinho.
