Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp only had a one-word reaction when he learned of Manchester City's defeat to Tottenham on Saturday: 'oh.' Klopp had seen his Liverpool side come from behind to beat Norwich at Anfield, before City kicked off shortly afterwards against Spurs.
City's subsequent defeat in injury time — moments after they thought they salvaged a draw through Riyad Mahrez's penalty — meant that Liverpool moved to within six points of City at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand.
That game in hand is on Wednesday, meaning Liverpool can move even closer to top spot with a win, and if they were to match City's results and beat the Blues at the Etihad in April, they would be level on points.
Inevitably, Klopp was asked about the City result in his pre-match press conference ahead of their Leeds game, where he expressed his mild surprise at the result but insisted his side will continue to focus on only themselves. "The truth, I was on my way home at 2-1 Spurs then I arrived at home and didn't follow it," he said. "I was sure City would equalise.
