But the Reds struck back on 25 minutes when Mo Salah squeezed a low shot into the right hand corner before Sadio Mane latched onto Virgil van Dijk's through ball to beat Aaron Ramsdale while one-on-one and complete the turnaround.
Liverpool's attention will now turn towards the Champions League as they look to overturn a 1-0 deficit in their last-16 second leg against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
