Virgil van Dijk has spoken out about how he arrived at his decision to sign for Liverpool, a transfer which has helped him secure a Champions League winners' medal and be hailed as European football's best defender.
The Dutch defender's early career saw him struggle in the lower reaches of the Eredivisie, before heading to Celtic where he developed from a boy into a man.
After winning the first trophies of his career north of the border, Van Dijk was snapped up by Southampton for a bargain fee of £13m.
It was while at the south coast outfit that Van Dijk began to earn serious plaudits, which saw the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea express their interest in his services.
