Virgil van Dijk carefully considered Liverpool's past, present, and future before agreeing a move to the Premier League side in December 2017.
The Southampton defender had been subject to the attention of a number of top sides including Manchester City for more than 12 months previous, with interest from the Blues strong enough for the centre-back to be given a City shirt from his teammates in their 2016 Secret Santa.
