Lil Nas X and Emily Ratajkowski have slammed Blackout Tuesday. Celebrities decided to take a break from social media today (2 June) to acknowledge the Black Lives Matter movement and the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes during an arrest.
The idea saw Instagram users use the Blackout Tuesday hashtag and post a picture of a black square. Some of the famous faces who got involved included Rihanna, Britney Spears, Kylie Jenner and Drake.
However Emily dismissed it as ‘the worst kind of virtue signalling’. She tweeted a video that scrolled through the Black Lives Matter hashtag, with the majority of posts now black squares.
