Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Former Celtic winger Kris Commons insists his former club can mount a title challenge against defensively "shaky" Rangers this season.

Steven Gerrard's side ran over the top of Motherwell in a 6-1 demolition at Fir Park as they cruised four points clear of their rivals on Saturday.

That rout came less than 24 hours after Ange Postecoglou watched his Celtic side blow the chance to move top of the table for the first time this season in a stalemate with Livingston.

But Commons insists there have been noticeable improvements at Parkhead from last season despite some "inconsistent" results so far this campaign.After the opening quarter, the Scotland cap reckons the title race is too close to call but doesn't expect Celtic to fall away any time
