Jose Mourinho had reached an agreement with Liverpool before becoming Chelsea manager, according to his former advisor. Mourinho was close to taking over from Gerard Houllier during a mediocre season at Anfield in 2004.
He was well on his way to guiding Porto to a shock Champions League victory and was tipped to take the Liverpool job. But Roman Abramovich soon intervened after taking over at Chelsea, bringing the Special One to Stamford Bridge where he led them to their first Premier League title.
In a new book, ‘Mourinho: Beyond the Special One, from the origin to the glory’, his former advisor, Jorge Baidek has confirmed there was an agreement in place with the Reds.
